A Charming Friendship

Darrien posted the photo because she wanted to show a moment of happiness. The world can seem unbearably dark at times, but photos like this show that good things can still happen. Each day, Caleb visits Wilma at least four or five times. According to Caleb, he checks on her because he wants to make sure that she wakes up from her naps alright.

Since the photo was posted online, it has been shared more than 146,000 times. People around the world are falling in love with this adorable pair.

Darrien later talked to Yahoo Lifestyle about her grandmother's life in the neighborhood. Wilma has lived in the same neighborhood for 38 years. When Darrien was little, she always followed her grandmother around. Even now, she still has a strong bond with her grandmother.

Unfortunately, life has not been easy for Wilma. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had a surgery to remove a part of her lung. Six months later, she was given a breast cancer diagnosis. While this has been traumatic for the elderly woman, she is still fighting cancer.

Darrien wants Wilma to move in with her, but her grandmother is stubborn. She has refused to leave her house. Wilma has lived in the same home for 38 years, so she does not want to give it up. She loves being independent. She wakes up early in the morning, makes a cup of coffee and drinks it on her porch. Then, she gets to talk to all of her neighbors during the day.

Darrien works at the hospital's emergency department, but she is also a full-time student. Between her work and school commitments, it is hard for her to take Wilma to each appointment. Thankfully, two women live next to Wilma. They take Wilma to her appointments and check on her each day.

Young Caleb also checks on his favorite neighbor. He first met Wilma when she gave him a plate of food. Caleb had just moved in with his grandmother and father. The young boy was ecstatic to get the food. Before long, he was checking on Wilma all the time.

It looks like the feelings are mutual. Wilma is extremely attached to the boy and loves hearing about his day at school. He makes her laugh and brings joy to her final years.
