When the Duchess of Sussex arrived in Australia with Harry, 6-year-old Gavin Hazelwood gifted her with a homemade piece of jewelry.

His macaroni necklace, which featured a black ribbon with white stitching, has become a hot commodity.

The comings and goings of fashion can be unpredictable. Moreover, different locales have their own take on the style. Through the ages, though, people have always seemed to don whatever is popular at the moment in an effort to look and feel good.

Your mother probably told you that fashion is cyclical. Over the decades, styles come in and out of vogue. When certain styles make their comeback, it’s usually with enough of an update to make them seem like a new take on an old look.

But who actually sets these trends? In this particular case, it was a 6-year-old boy named Gavin Hazelwood.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in Australia, young Gavin Hazelwood gifted her royal highness with a special gift. He’d made her a macaroni necklace with black ribbon with white stitching.

Of course, it wasn’t just any macaroni. Young Hazelwood made his necklace with dinosaur macaroni. To give it a little royal flair, he painted each piece gold.

The Duchess gracefully accepted his gift and immediately put it on. Her new statement necklace was paired with a long navy dress, tan overcoat, and fashion-forward Manolo Blahnik pumps.

It was over quickly enough, but the interaction between Duchess and young necklace maker may have been the beginning of a new business. Since the Duchess walked away in Hazelwood’s creation, the 6-year-old has gotten several necklace requests from fans in the US, UK, and Australia.

The boy’s mother, Rowan Hazelwood, told Australia’s Network 10 that “a lot of people” are asking Gavin to make more necklaces and saying that he could potentially make a lot of money from a necklace-making venture.

Hazelwood might be young, but he’s taking full advantage of his newfound fame. He plans to fulfill requests for his macaroni necklaces using a website his parents set up for orders.
