When we think of the formation of friendship and love between humans and animals, we often envision dogs, cats or other domestic animals. But in one instance inside of the Australian War Memorial, a pigeon symbolized the beauty that underlies all of life. This bird, without knowing it, was able to create a breathtaking and tear-inducing statement that would go on to shock the world.

The individuals working within the Canberra-based memorial had spent weeks wondering where their red poppies were disappearing to. Although the staff were scouring around to find their final destination, it wasn't until a groundsman found the culprit. Much to their surprise the thief was not a man or a woman, but rather a gray, winged creature that had made its home in the Hall of Memory.

The staff, although stunned at first, said this came as no surprise as the army had used these animals in the past for an array of small activities. According to one historian -- Dr. Meleah Hampton -- pigeons have been used as far back as World War II as a means of communication. Individuals often used the birds to relay messages within their platoon when other means of communication were made unavailable or deemed dangerous.

The cute pigeon used the red tulips to form a small nest underneath a gorgeous stained-glass window within the memorial as reported by CTV News. The inquisitive bird can often be seen sitting within the nest looking down on the people that come to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.

Fast forward to our modern era and we see that the bond between man and bird has not changed. In fact, many Australians believe that this act of defiance by the pigeon was a beautiful way of honoring the men and women that lost their lives during the war. What do you think? Do you think this was just a random incident? Or, perhaps, was it a tribute to those that served in prior years?

Do you know someone that needs a reminder of how beautiful life can be? Perhaps the small act of this pigeon can brighten their day and make them realize that amazing things can happen in the blink of an eye!
