Sometimes they serve as a pick-me-up on a bad day. In a lovely homecoming video filmed a couple years ago in this family's living room, Harley, a German Shepard, welcomed home his daddy after his deployment as a staff sergeant.

We, just like the dog, thank this staff sergeant for his service now that he finally has the chance to come home. It's not clear from the video if he was visiting or home for good, but his German Shepherd didn't care.

Harley is the beautiful dog in the video. When he comes into the room, he greets the other family members. He's completely focused on them. This is a trait Shepherds often display as they serve their family or pack because, according to The American Kennel Club, they are an extremely loyal breed. They have to tell him to turn around! When he spots the serviceman, he immediately recognizes him. He shows how he feels about it! Harley races around his friend and asks for pets and cuddles.

He gets himself so worked up that his owner has to tell him to settle down. Harley has trouble with that. He's a lively dog, and he's feeling pretty good at the moment. He starts to play harder because that's what dogs do. He finally manages to calm down and come in close for some gentle hugs.
