When real pets resemble stuffed animals, it's extra special, and you've got to take a look at this incredible video story of the curly-haired poodle cats. The breed is actually called the Selkirk Rex and originated in 1987 in Montana from a feral cat that had a litter of five. Breeders were freaked out when they noticed the fur on one of the cute kittens. It was extra-thick and curly like a poodle.

Animal experts called it a genetic mutation of sorts, and the poodle coat became a dominant trait. The baby female kitten did not resemble members of her related breeds from the Devon Rex and Cornish Rex feline lineage.

Social media sites feature lots of photos of these super-cuddly poodle cats in various shades of fur. All of them display the signature three layers of curly fur.

These head-turning cats have been gaining plenty of attention and were quickly put on the map by the International Cat Association, the American Cat Fanciers Association and Cat Fanciers' Association. The University of Veterinary Medicine finally confirmed that the Selkirk Rex breed was a distinct one indeed due to its unique genetics.

The nickname "poodle cats" caught on very quickly, but there is another name people use. Some fans refer to these extra furry cats as "cat in sheep's clothing." Either way, you cannot deny the fluff factor.

These fancy felines "got it goin' on."

In France, they have another moniker for this beautiful breed, calling the feline "mouton chat" or "sheep cat."

There are several videos of Selkirk Rex kittens on YouTube prancing about in their wooly-looking silky coats. They're too cute, and best of all, don't produce as much dander as the typical cat. Folks just want to reach out and hold one close to their heart. These poodle cats look warm and fuzzy.

A thing of beauty is never cheap, however, and the Selkirk Rex breed is not for the budget-conscious pet owner. For instance, be prepared to dip in your wallet to the tune of $500 to $800 for a healthy, pedigreed, poodle cat kitten. The cuties are judged in cost by characteristics like gender, birth order, size, coat color, lineage and/or even championship show status.

Poodle cats are on-trend and considered the little darlings of the pet world.

This is a must-see pet video story. It's fun and educational for all folks to appreciate:
