These Guys Found A Method To Make Leather Out Of Cactus Leaves To Help Protect The Environment

It is never too late to make an impact on your environment. Saving the planet can sound like a daunting task to many, but most of us do not realize that the small steps we all take all lead up to a much larger change. However, if you do choose to affect change on a larger scale, that is perfectly fine as well.

When people invent ideas in which they can greatly impact our environment, we often find ourselves amazed at what humans can accomplish. Two such people are entrepreneurs from Mexico: Adrian López Velarde and Marte Cazarez. These men have found an astonishing way to create vegan leather out of cacti.

Adrian and Marte have been working in the fashion and furniture automotive industries for a long time. Working in such industries made them aware of the hazardous environmental impacts that their work entails. Inspired to help sustain our environment and make up for any damage caused by the industries, both entrepreneurs quit their jobs and dedicated the next couple years of their lives to working towards change.

Two entire years later in July 2019, the two men created something unique that would leave a great impact on the environment: marketable cactus leather. Many of us may wonder why they chose to use cactus instead of any other organic material. They chose cacti for its resilience because not only does the plant need minimal water to grow, but it can also withstand grueling low temperatures. In addition, Mexico is home to plenty of cacti.

The two entrepreneurs named their invention, "Desserto." The invention is the world's first environmentally-friendly vegan material made from Nopal cactus, reports DW News. Made without the insertion of harmful toxins and chemicals, when tested for durability, the material was found to be highly sustainable. The vegan leather is offered in different colors, textures, and thicknesses.

Marte and Adrian grew their cacti in a ranch located in the state of Zacatecas. They have created the leather through a rather simple process. First, they identify and cut the mature leaves of the cactus plant and thoroughly cleanse them. In this process, they also crush the leaves and leave them to dry under the heat of the sun for approximately three days. Lastly, the compound is processed for use in the creation of leather.

What surprises most people about this product is that it resembles and feels exactly like animal leather. This creation is breathable, durable, elastic, and very customizable. There is nothing that can be created with animal leather that these two men can't create out of this leather. The work of this pair has earned praise from people across the globe as more people turn towards this vegan alternative.

We think what these entrepreneurs have done for our environment is incredible! What do you think about the work of Adrian and Marte? Be sure to tell us your opinion on the matter and spread the word about this impressive creation!
