Aug 13, 2018 by apost team

Being a positive thinker has both physical and mental benefits. Positive thinkers have a longer life expectancy and a lower risk for conditions such as cardiovascular disease. They also have a huge amount of confidence and tend to be successful. If you think about the positive people you know, you might imagine them always smiling and uplifting other people. Here are five traits of positive people that you can cultivate too.

1. You Are Resilient

Positive thinkers are resilient, and facing and overcoming problems makes you even more resilient. Resilience means emotional stability, and when you are emotionally stable, you are able to come up with the right solution to problems more efficiently. It may help if you redefine problems as opportunities to rise up and meet a new challenge. If you think of hard situations as chances for you to become stronger, you are probably already a positive thinker.

2. You Are Accepting

Accepting doesn't mean giving up. It means being realistic about the situation you are in. Most major religions recognize the importance of acceptance. When you plan and work hard for something and it doesn't work out the way you hoped, you might feel disappointed or angry. Acceptance helps you to have a proportional response to the situation and move on. If you were in some way responsible for things not working out, acceptance allows you to forgive yourself.

3. You Are Grateful

Gratitude may be the most important element of positive thinking. However, you hear so often that you need to be grateful that you might start to think of it as a cliche. If you're very busy, you might forget to feel gratitude for things that many people don't have such as a place to live and food to eat. If you think about it, you probably have many things to be grateful for. Positive people make a daily practice out of gratitude. If you work at it, you may soon find yourself living a life that is suffused with gratitude.

4. You Are Conscious

We have incredible brains, but we don't always use them to their full potential. You might have fallen into a pattern of not really noticing what is happening around you. However, you can get into the habit of consciousness through mindfulness, reflection, meditation and prayer. This leads to a more positive life.

5. You Have Integrity

Integrity is about truth, but it is also about far more than that. It is about honor, morality and righteousness. Being deceptive is something you learn to do, not something you are born to do. You might feel that you need to tell small or big lies to be accepted. However, ultimately, living a life of integrity is the key to happiness. You can look at great figures in society who showed wonderful integrity such as Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King or religious figures such as Jesus and Buddha and see how integrity works in their lives. Positive people understand that integrity is inseparable from positivity.
