These 10 Symptoms Mean You Need To Go To The ER Now

Apr 26, 2018 by apost team

Nobody wants to go to the ER, especially if they think they can tough it out. Here are 10 symptoms you should never ignore.

If you ever experience any of these, seek out professional care immediately!

1. Excruciating Headache

Normally you could just take a painkiller or a nap in the hopes that your headache will disappear, but if you're experiencing what you could describe as the worst headache you've ever had, then this may be something deeper.

If you suffer from migraines regularly, don't be tempted to just ignore a headache that is much more severe since it could be your only warning of a brain hemorrhage.

2. Chest Aches

It's always good to stay in tune with your body. If you know your chest pain is coming from a traceable cause like muscle soreness after exercise, then you're likely fine.

However, if your chest tightens immediately after cardiovascular activity, this is usually a precursor to a dangerous heart attack.

3. Spiked Fever

If you know you have the flu or some other short illness, fevers are a sign that your body is fighting off the sickness. If your temperature spikes seemingly out of nowhere and is 105 degrees, then that is classified as an adult medical emergency.

If you have a persistent fever around 103 degrees, then this may mean you have a disease that your body can't fight alone.

4. Breathlessness

Everyone loses their breath after climbing a flight of stairs, but if you can't recover quickly, find it hard to breathe, or your lungs or throat feel tight, then you should call 911.

5. Bleeding Cut

If you have a cut, your instinct is to simply clean it and slap a band-aid on it. However, if you've stepped on something metal or your cut is too deep, you need a professional to clean it and stop the bleeding by giving you stitches.

6. Head Trauma

Anytime you damage your head, it's serious. If you notice that you have a bump on your head, you need to get examined. Most symptoms of a concussion are easily missed, but getting examined is crucial in case your brain is still bleeding.

7. Persistent Stomachache

When you get a normal stomach bug, it's fine to bunker down in the bathroom for a day or two until it passes, but if your diarrhea persists for more than 5 days, you are at risk of dehydration and you should get yourself checked out immediately.

8. Tingling In Extremities

If you sit a strange way, you'll experience a pins and needles feeling in your legs, but if this tingling comes out of nowhere, it could mean you are having a stroke.

9. Sudden Lumps And Bumps

Men and women should always make a practice of feeling their testicles and breasts to feel for any growths.

Cancerous bumps usually appear suddenly, so it's important to get looked at right away. Most bumps aren't malignant, but give yourself the peace of mind by getting a doctor's diagnosis.

10. Dizzyness

If you get up really fast or skip a meal, dizziness is expected. However, if you faint and experience any other painful symptoms, this could be stemming from a deeper illness. If you faint, you're also at risk for head trauma, which is another symptom on this list that requires immediate medical attention!
