These 10 Simple Exercises Will Relax Your Eyes Immediately

Nov 20, 2018 by apost team

Is there anything more terrifying than a dark spot on your vision? The good news is that most "floaters" are just signs of overtired eyes rather than critical vision problems. Here are a few tips and tricks for getting them relaxed and refreshed.

1. Move Up and Down

Do the same thing as the tip listed above, but this time, move your eyes up and down. Remember to keep your head completely still. This isn't a neck exercise; it's an eye exercise.

2. Roll Them to the Heavens

Despite what your mom might have told you, rolling your eyes won't make them stick that way. In fact, rolling them in circles with 2-3 repetitions over the course of 5-10 minutes can help them feel less tired and achy after a long day.

3. Cover Your Eyes

A few moments of darkness can give your eyes a break from all of the strain of bright lights and blinking screens. Rather than closing them, however, put your hands over them. This will completely engulf them in a comforting darkness.

4. Switch Your Focus

Hold a pencil a few inches away from your eyes. Focus on all of its grooves and scratches. Switch your gaze to a distant object like a door or window; then, return to the pencil. If you do this several times in a row, you'll strengthen both your near- and far-sighted vision.

5. Cross-Cross Again

If you're having trouble going cross-eyed with your eyebrows, you might have better luck with the same exercise directed at a different body part. Try to gaze at the very tip of your nose. Hold it for a few seconds; relax for another few. Then, do it all over again.

6. Massage Your Eyelids

If all else fails, consider an old-fashioned massage. Just make sure that you're rubbing your eyelids in gentle, circular motions instead of roughly scrubbing them without finesse. The former will be soothing, but the latter will just make them ache even more.

7. Look Both Ways

As the great optometrist Ariana Grande once said, make your vision go from "side to side." Keep your head facing forward while you move your eyes from the left to the right. This will help you strengthen your peripheral vision.

8. Move Diagon Alley

If you've never noticed this pun from the Harry Potter series, you're in luck! But it's also a great way to increase the flexibility of your range of vision. Simply move your eyes in a diagonal fashion on both sides.

9. Criss-Cross

This is another exercise that might horrify mom, but we promise that it's good for you. Cross your eyes and try to look at the point between your eyebrows. Hold this focus for several seconds before relaxing.

10. Squeeze Like a Lemon

Squeeze your eyes shut like you've just squirted lemon juice into them. This will gather tension around your eyes, cheeks and forehead, and when you finally release it, it'll feel better than a stress ball.
