There’s A New Spice Girls Movie In Development With All Five Girls And Yes, That Includes Posh

The girls are back again! The Spice Girls that is. The entire lineup of Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger, and even reunion-reluctant Posh Spice are coming back to the screen for a follow-up to their iconic movie “Spice World” from back in 1997 (unbelievably, two decades ago).

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the girls will be producing an animated movie with Paramount Animation, the plot and details of which haven't been released yet. Excitingly, the film will include classic Spice Girls songs for nostalgia, as well as brand new originals to keep things fresh.

Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B. (Brown), Mel C. (Chisholm), and Geri Halliwell will be “very involved” according to Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. The script is reportedly going to be written by Kiwi Smith and Karen McCullah (“10 Things I Hate About You,” “Legally Blonde”), and produced by Simon Fuller (“Idol” producer and Spice Girls manager).

The movie is a follow-up to the cult favorite “Spice World,” that had a famously convoluted spy and action film plot as a backdrop to the girls navigating female friendship and their celebrity demands. It was semi-biographical, documenting the rise of their fame. “Spice World” has a terrible score on Rotten Tomatoes of 35% but it still remains a fan-favorite in the hearts of 90s kids everywhere.

The new movie is just another project for the busy girls, as everyone (except Posh) is wrapping up their 2019 world tour with only a few dates in London left on the calendar. Posh declined to join the tour because she had other commitments with her family and multi-million dollar fashion label, she told Good Morning America in January.

Posh sent her best friends off in style when they started their tour 2 weeks ago—she posted best wishes on her Instagram saying, “Good luck to the girls today as they start their tour! x VB” with the adorable hashtag #FriendshipNeverEnds.
