Every parent wants their child to achieve their dreams. The 9/11 terrorist attacks wrenched many families apart. Some firefighters who bravely worked to rescue as many people as possible were killed themselves that tragic day. Others died later of related illnesses.
Nineteen young men and women who were children of firefighters that perished have chosen to carry on their fathers’ legacy. This is a moving story of family bonds that transcend time and death. One man said that his dad was his hero and that he wanted to be around people who were just like his dad.
The New York City Fire Department academy held an emotional graduation ceremony where these young men and women were among the 301 probationary firefighters recognized. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said that these graduates are carrying on a noble legacy and achieving their own dreams at the same time reports WTVR.

She graduated alongside her brother Marc, who added that it was so incredible to be working as a firefighter the same way their father had. Their brothers Matthew and Carl Asaro Jr. are already firefighters.
Robert Tilearcio Jr. said to ABC that he took the firefighter test the same month his father passed away. His father had developed cancer after 9/11. Robert Tilearcio Jr. added that he'd always wanted to be a firefighter and was proud to be honoring his father.
