The Queen Is Planning A Joint Birthday Party For William And Kate To Celebrate ‘In Style’

If there is one family that knows how to throw a good party, it’s the royal family. June 2022 shaped up to be quite the celebration for Prince William. At the start of the month, he and other royal family members honored Queen Elizabeth II during her four-day Platinum Jubilee celebration. From the annual Trooping the Colour parade to various other events, including the Platinum Party at the Park, William was in attendance at many of the festivities.

Then, Father’s Day occurred, and William no doubt celebrated with his three adorable children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. For the occasion, the Cambridge household released a gorgeous photo of William and the Cambridge children laughing during a family trip to Jordan in autumn 2021.

And on June 21, 2022, William reached a milestone and celebrated his 40th birthday! It was a huge occasion, so much so that the Royal Mint even released a commemorative coin to honor the future monarch. He was on a coin made in honor of his and Kate Middleton’s engagement and wedding.

Now, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to share another exciting moment together – a joint birthday party thrown by the Queen! Although Kate’s 40th birthday was back in January, her festivities were canceled due to an uptick in the pandemic at the time. Fortunately, William and Kate are used to sharing plenty of wonderful moments, and a combined birthday extravaganza is the perfect way for the happy couple to kick off a summer of joyous celebrations.

Kate turned 40 on Jan. 9, 2022. To commemorate the landmark birthday, Kensington Palace released three never-before-seen portraits of the duchess, which will enter the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery. The portraits, photographed by Paolo Roversi, show Kate wearing three Alexander McQueen dresses, which she's accessorized with jewelry from the Queen’s collection, according to Vogue.

The royal family's official social media accounts also commemorated Kate’s birthday. "Wishing The Duchess of Cambridge a very happy 40th birthday today!" the family's birthday post read on Instagram.

On June 21, 2022, William also reached the milestone birthday and turned 40 years old. He was also honored by the Royal Mint in the first coin that will feature him alone. Designed and engraved by Thomas T. Docherty, the coin features the duke's portrait on one side, while the Queen appears on the other side. Alongside the image of William is his royal cipher, the letter W and the number 40, while the edge is inscribed with, "HRH The Duke of Cambridge."

It was the first time William appeared by himself on an official coin, following two other times that marked his engagement to Kate and their wedding in 2011, on which they both appeared.

The Royal Mint has released other limited-edition souvenirs to commemorate William's 40th birthday, including a 0.25oz gold celebration coin and a 1982 sovereign coin marking the year William was born.

Meanwhile, Clare Maclennan of the Royal Mint called the design "elegant" and said it “pays homage to the maturity and grace of the prince who has become a senior member of the royal family, a devoted husband and a loving father of three, through the eyes of the world."

The royal family also honored William with messages of their own. Prince Charles shared a touching birthday tribute to William via the official Clarence House social media channels. Alongside a slideshow of photos of the two of them over the decades, the post was captioned:

"Wishing The Duke of Cambridge a very happy 40th birthday! 🎂🎈"

Now, William and Kate have plans to share their milestone birthdays. According to The Mirror, the Queen planned a joint birthday party for William and Kate after Kate’s birthday celebrations in January 2022 were canceled due to the pandemic. They received the go-ahead to hold the party at either Windsor Castle or Sandringham Estate later this summer to “celebrate their landmark birthdays in style.”

This is not the only time the royal family has celebrated multiple birthdays at one party. According to The Mirror, Windsor Castle was the place to be in June 2000 as the royal family gathered to celebrate Prince Andrew’s 40th birthday, Princess Anne’s 50th, Princess Margaret’s 70th and William’s 18th.

Several senior royals are set to be in attendance at William and Kate’s joint party, including William’s father, Charles, and his stepmother Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Even the Queen may show up as it is royal tradition to celebrate decade birthdays for royal family members, according to The Mirror. However, nothing is confirmed yet, especially considering the Queen’s health and mobility issues.

While the official date of the joint party hasn’t been announced yet, we’re sure it’ll be a fun, beautiful day fit for the royal family.
