The Queen recently placed an advertisement for a fantastic opportunity: a paid job that allows the employee to live in Buckingham Palace near where the Queen herself lives.

The lucky person selected for the assistant catering position will primarily work in the Queen's kitchens. The job requires assisting in food preparation, preparing displays, assisting in maintaining a clean environment, and in general, ensuring everything is ready and running smoothly on a daily basis.

Unlike many jobs in the palace, where the staff remains out of sight and never interacts with the Queen or Royal family, this position is different. During meals, the lucky employee will be helping to serve the food to the Queen and her guests while working to ensure the foodservice goes smoothly.

This position will allow the employee to come into close contact with many members of the royal family and get a clear view of what life is really like inside Buckingham Palace and possibly in other royal residences.

Applicants to the position are not required to have prior catering or food preparation/service experience as all necessary training will be provided. In addition, the chosen person will receive full training in Food Hygiene and Safety.

This is the chance of a lifetime: an entry-level position with no experience required that provides valuable career training and experience, a residence inside Buckingham Palace, and the opportunity to interact directly with the Queen and the Royal family.

The advertisement does not list the position's salary, but most of the live-in positions in Buckingham Palace pay slightly less than minimum wage. Still, they also offer room and board as part of their compensation package. An estimated 1000 people work in and around Buckingham Palace on a daily basis, but most staff members do not actually live in the palace. There are 188 staff bedrooms in Buckingham Palace that have been described as "modest"; for example, none of them have a private en-suite bathroom or sitting room.

However, this is an exciting opportunity for a young inexperienced person to gain valuable experience and career training while rubbing shoulders with royalty on a daily basis. To learn more, read the job description on The Royal Household website.
