Princess Diana is remembered, among many things, for being a true fashion icon. Her trendy but also understated looks—beginning in the 1980s, and continuing until her untimely death in 1997—are still considered iconic today.

And while Kate Middleton is also well known for her unique style, it's wonderful to see that even she often pays homage to Lady Diana Spencer's style from time to time, sometimes even wearing similar looks for the same occasions Diana wore the same thing for. Let's take a look at some of the memorable times Diana and Kate were style twins.

Polka dots were a huge look in the 1980s, so it's no surprise that fashion-forward Lady Di wore a stunning white frock with striking black polka dots, complete with a matching hat, to The Royal Ascot in 1988.

While at Wimbledon in 2017, Kate paid homage to Diana's look and wore a similarly chic white dress with black polka dots. She updated the look with simple hair and classic black and white accessories.

Not only did Prince William give Kate the same 18-carat sapphire diamond ring that belonged to his mother from her engagement to Prince Charles, but Kate even opted for a similar outfit choice in their engagement photos. Wearing a beautiful navy blue wraparound dress when they announced their engagement in November 2010, Kate's choice was undoubtedly to match the shade of her gorgeous ring, but it also happens to be a similar color to what Diana wore in February 1981 when her and Charles announced their engagement.

When Lady Diana Spencer wed Prince Charles at St. Paul's Cathedral on July 29, 1981, she wore a voluminous cream gown with a long train and veil, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. Thirty years later when Kate Middleton walked down the aisle on April 29, 2011, she wore a stunning dress from Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton, which took similar elements from Diana's but brought them into the modern age.

In another nod to Diana, Kate wore a similar look when she left hospital with her second son, Prince Louis, as Diana had worn when she had just given birth to her second son, Prince Harry. Diana wore a striking red dress and coat with contrasting white collar when she left St. Mary's Hospital with Harry in 1984, while Kate wore a red shift dress with a white lace collar as she left the same hospital in 2018 with Louis.

On a visit to Lahore, Pakistan in 1996, Princess Diana wore a simple white outfit and headscarf while visiting the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. Then in September 2012, Kate covered up in a similarly chic white scarf when she visited a mosque in Malaysia.
