Wayne Carson, Mark James, and Johnny Christopher actually wrote the song “Always on My Mind.” It was recorded in 1972 by Brenda Lee and Gwen McCrae. Millions of us know the song because of Elvis’ stunning rendition of it!

Back then, Elvis fell head over heels in love with the song and wanted to release his own version of it.

It took just a couple of weeks to climb up the charts until it reached the 20th spot on the famous US Billboard Hot 100. The timing of the release was somewhat ironic, however. Elvis released it just a few weeks after he split up with Priscilla, his wife.

We don’t know why Elvis redid the song. Was he turning to it because he split up with his wife and needed comfort? Did he just love the song and wanted to record his own version? No matter the reason, we are very happy we got to hear it!

You’ll love the rare look we found inside of Elvis’ creative process in the below video. It is very hard to find quality videos of Elvis, and this particular one will make you feel like you were right there with him while he was singing his blues away! We bet it was an amazing thing to witness in person!
