What causes acne?

Acne is a skin-related issue that can happen to anybody, no matter your gender, age, or the type of skin you have. Acne can affect up to 4 out of 5 people between the ages of 11 and 30. The causes of acne can vary between many factors, such as clogging of the skin from oil or dead skin cells. You can also notice acne from things such as sweating or the type of fabrics you wear, but it can also be an underlying health concern depending on the area it shows up on.

1. Your buttocks

Acne on your buttock’s area can be caused by the clothing items you wear. When the fabric of your pants or underwear is made of materials that are unbreathable, you should switch to something airier like cotton.

If there is no noticeable difference, it might be time to alter your diet. Sugar and foods high in fat can be the culprit, so try drinking large amounts of water and eating fruits and vegetables.

2. Your jawline or neck

When your adrenal glands are overactive, you may notice breakouts on your neck or jawline. This cause can be related to these hormones, but ingesting excessive amounts of sugar can also be the problem. Avoid sweets and you might notice a difference.

3. Your shoulders

Acne located on your shoulders can be caused by the fabric of the clothes you wear. Pay attention to the body washes, lotions or soaps that you use as well. Stress can also cause acne in this area, as well as fried foods that are high in calories.

4. Your chest

Chemicals in body lotions or soaps can cause your chest to develop acne. However, perspiration and clothes that are unbreathable can also be the cause. An underlying health issue that has to do with your digestion or a lack of nutrition can also cause you to develop chest acne.

5. Your elbows

Keratosis pilaris is a condition of the skin that will not detriment your health but showcases as tiny blotches on your elbows. This skin issue can come from an underlying lack of vitamins. Make sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet in order to receive all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs.

6. Your stomach

Clothing items that are unbreathable, unlike cotton, can cause acne in your stomach region. Sweating can also cause this issue, but unbalanced blood sugar levels could also be the health concern at hand.

7. Your back

Often referred to as “bacne,” this type of acne is often the result of high-stress levels or digestive issues. It could also be a symptom of a problem with your nervous system. Wear breathable fabrics, watch your diet and drink enough water.

8. Your scalp

If you notice acne on your scalp area, be wary of the shampoos and conditioners as well as hair products that you are using. Hats, as well as products with too many chemicals or scented products with too much perfume, could be the cause.

9. Your legs

Clothing items can cause irritation and acne on your legs, such as unbreathable skinny jeans not made of cotton. Dry skin or even an allergy from the products you wash your clothes with could also be the cause. Exfoliating your legs and drinking enough water can help this issue.

Because acne affects so many people, it is nothing to be embarrassed about. The acne in these 9 areas may be caused by an underlying health issue, but many times it can be fixed with a diet change or altering the products you use.
