The Heroes We Didn’t Know We Needed: Cops Guard Ice Cream Shelves Following New Licking Trend

Social media is more than just keeping in touch with your friends. It’s also about connecting to others in weird ways through social media challenges and trends, often benefiting a cause. Good examples would are lip-sync battles or Baby Shark dancing videos that go viral.

Lately, however, these challenges have become more, shall we say, challenging. You might even get a felony charge if you are following the Licking trend. One young woman licked a carton of ice cream in Texas and put it back on the shelf. Now she might be charged by Walmart.

She probably didn’t know that putting her tongue on an unopened Blue Bell ice cream carton was against the law. She probably thought it was just a silly prank that many others were also doing.

This copycat trend happening on social media is not just inconsiderate, it’s against the law. She could have faced 20 years in prison if she was over eighteen. However, since she is a minor, she will be left to the juvenile justice system.

This video received some humourous backlash, even if the trend itself is disgusting. One follower threw the joke back by posting a picture on Twitter of an ice cream carton being cut, just in case someone else had already licked the top of the ice cream. Another guy on Twitter showed a video of him licking a carton of ice cream, but when the camera pulls back, it is revealed that he is not out in public but in the privacy of his own kitchen. 

Even though people are mostly laughing at the trend, the cops in Texas are taking the threat seriously. The Public Safety department of the town posted a photo of two cops in front of the ice cream aisle, guarding the ice cream against further defacement. These men are the heroes people didn’t know they needed, especially if they love ice cream.

"Ain't nobody licking our Blue Bell!" their Facebook post claimed.

Blue Bell released a statement about the viral licking videos of their ice cream. They are taking the violations seriously because they view the tampering of products as a situation that can affect many people. They suggest alerting the local police if anyone sees people messing with any food item in the grocery store.
