The then 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma attained the coveted 'Golden Buzzer' on the 12th season of America's Got Talent after her ventriloquist act. She eventually emerged as the winner of that season.

Darci Lynne Farmer used to have a problem with shyness. When she was a little girl, her mother was always trying to help her find ways to come out of her shell. Finally, when she was ten, her mom had an idea. What if she got her a ventriloquist's puppet? Surprisingly, Darci took to it very well.

An Unusual Act

Darci's choice of talent is not typical for someone her age. But as she's explained many times, that's one reason that she likes it. Ventriloquism isn't exactly a common hobby for tweens, but she thinks it is one worth preserving.

After all, it's got a long tradition behind it. Audiences love it. In her opinion, there's simply no good reason to let it die out without a fight.

Of course, that doesn't mean that young Darci Lynne Farmer isn't an innovative artist in her own right. She's definitely put her own spin on the traditional ventriloquism act.

For one thing, she sings instead of doing a more classic spoken comedy style ventriloquism act. With her bubbly personality and her rabbit puppet Petunia, Darci charmed the judges aonAGT. Mel B, who as a 'Spice Girl' knows a thing or two about entertainment, even pushed the 'Golden Buzzer' for her act after saying:

"You make my heart melt, you were brilliant. I'm trying to describe how amazing it was."

Winning Big

Darci was a huge hit with the audience for the talent competition. In fact, her act resonated with viewers unlike any other. She was the winner of season 12! Even better than that, she has invited back for America's Got Talent: The Champions.

Though she didn't win that edition of the show, she was the first runner-up. That's not bad for such a young lady with such unique talent! She definitely proved that there's still an audience for ventriloquism. It's going to be interesting to see what Darci and Petunia do in the future.

What do you think of Darci's act? Do you think there will be a resurgence in ventriloquism thanks to her appearance on the show? Let's talk in the comments and be sure to pass this article along to others!
