The busy schedules most of us live makes it easy to forget the many opportunities that will come our way to make a difference in the lives of others. This is especially true when we are at work.

Money is the main focus of most people when they choose where they will work. But men like Curtis Jenkins from Dallas, Texas knows there are other ways to be compensated for the work you do.

Curtis is a bus driver that takes kids to and from Lake Highlands Elementary School. The relationships he forges with the students he drives adds more value to his job than he can explain.

Not only has Curtis made sure to know the address, name, and favorite hobby of each child on his bus, he also gives them a duty to fulfill each day they ride his bus. He believes that giving each child a job to do keeps things running smoothly in their 'community.'

Some of the kids are entrusted with being police officers for the day. While others are assistants, administrators, or serve other important functions. Curtis says this exercise helps the children to understand what is expected of them as far as behavior. He says they behave accordingly out of respect for their bus driver and each other.

Curtis says he loves all the children that make up his community and wants to set the best example for them that is possible.

Once the kids are seated on the bus each day, Curtis uses the microphone to reiterate the rules of the house to them. The first rule is to love and care for each other. When he asks this question to the children on his bus, they always give a resounding 'yes' in unison.

Emily Gruniger is the principal at Lake Highlands Elementary. She says Curtis is a man that goes above and beyond the call of duty. She says she has never seen a bus driver or anyone else show the ability to connect with the children he serves in the way Curtis is able to. She says that for Curtis, the bus is his family.

Curtis gives birthday gifts to the students and has spent thousands of dollars of his own money buying schools supplies and other things they need. One boy, whose name is Ethan, said Curtis is like a father to him.

It is comments like Ethan's that are worth more to Curtis than a paycheck.
