As Ellen DeGeneres and her popular namesake show continue to be at the center of controversy, Australia's Channel 9 has stopped airing it as of this Monday.

The decision came following accusations of a "toxic workplace environment" made by former and current employees. As of now, Channel 9 has replaced the talk show with reruns of "Desperate Housewives" in the same time slot.

The ongoing scandal about toxic workplace conditions around The Ellen DeGeneres Show has reached new heights. Starting this Monday, August 24th, Australia's Channel 9 has ceased airing the show. A spokesperson for the channel confirmed in a comment made to news.com.au that “We are resting Ellen repeats on Nine and have replaced with Desperate Housewives.” However, the spokesperson also hastened to add that:

“Nine haven’t axed anything - we have been playing repeats on Nine which will continue on 9Gem. Discussions are ongoing regarding the new series.”

Earlier this month, Channel 9 programming director Hamish Turner already mentioned in an interview with TV Tonight that the Australian channel had no intentions of showing the newest season of the show. As the main reason, he cited the current uncertainty and unclear state of the show and its future, as producer Warner Brothers shrouds itself in mystery.

“But we’ll wait to hear from Warner Brothers as to the results of their internal inquiry, because at the moment, they haven’t even come forward with what the show is, or when it might go back into production. We’re waiting to see what the US are doing and then obviously we’ll need to negotiate rates. There’s a lot to go under the bridge before we even get to that stage. We haven’t got a clear picture yet.”

However, the state of the show might soon become clearer. Warner Brothers is rumored to soon end its internal investigation. Earlier this month, three of the show's top producers were fired as a direct result of it. As news.com.au reports, executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman as well as co-executive producer Jonathan Norman were suspended in late July and fired several days ago. An email sent to the staff of the show was leaked to The Independent and stated that while not all allegations could be proven true, some unfortunately were. Or, as the mail read:

“We are disappointed that the primary findings of the investigation indicated some deficiencies related to the show’s day-to-day management.”

Ellen DeGeneres herself has repeatedly claimed that she did not see or notice any harmful behavior around the show and that she feels horrified to hear that the employees have been treated badly.
