The Eagles Officially Beat Out Michael Jackson For Best-Selling Album Of All Time

Mar 21, 2019 by apost team

This may come as a shocker to most Michael Jackson fans, but 'Thriller' is no longer the best selling album of all-time. That coveted position now belongs to The Eagles - a rock band that was formed in Los Angeles back in 1971.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has officially confirmed that The Eagles' record named 'The Greatest Hits 1971-1975' has gone 38 times platinum. The previous record held by 'Thriller' was 33x platinum.

Interestingly, this wasn't the first time the two albums were fighting for the top spot. Before 2009, 'The Greatest Hits 1971-1975' was the top-selling record of all time for 10 consecutive years. It was only after the 'King of Pops' death that Thriller became number 1 again. This puts the record above Michael Jackson's iconic record Thriller, which has gone 33x Platinum.

So what makes The Eagles record so great? Well, it has all of the band's hit songs from back in the day. Examples include Take it Easy, Desperado, Lyin' Eyes, Tequila Sunrise, Take It To The Limit, and Heartache Tonight.

Another notable milestone for the band is that they have the number 3 best selling album of all time. 'Hotel California' has gone platinum 26 times. This band has remained resilient despite competition from young and upcoming talented musicians.

The band is currently on tour despite being one founding member short. The death of Glenn Frey in 2016 was a huge blow for the band. However, they carry on with their music, thanks to strong support from their fans and families.

Sometimes old is gold, and you can't beat good music. Decades after The Eagles released 'The Greatest Hits 1971-1975', people are still buying the record.
