The Cambridge Family Is Searching For A 'Quieter Life' And May Move To A New Residence

Prince William and Kate Middleton currently live at Kensington Palace with their three adorable children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. According to Woman and Home, William and Kate live in Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace. They first moved there in 2013 and moved out for a short while after their eldest was born. However, the couple later returned, and have been living there ever since.

Kate and William have spent most of their time at Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace in London since their kids go to school in London. And while “Apartment 1A” certainly doesn’t sound like much — at least not for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — the “apartment” is actually a massive 20-room, four-story apartment.

Kate and William also have the more well-known Anmer Hall getaway, a Georgian country home in the village of Anmer, which is located on the coast of Norfolk, England. The home, which is part of Sandringham Estate, was built in the 18th century, and since then it has had a variety of inhabitants from civil servants to members of the royal family. Today, of course, it belongs to the Cambridges — a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II.

While the Cambridge family has certainly been living the royal life and been a major support to the queen as she carries out her royal duties, they are reportedly looking to move to a suburban area to give their children a quieter life. Read on to know more about how Kate and William are planning to look for a new home.

Although Kate Middleton and Prince William spend most of their time at Kensington Palace in London or at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, they reportedly also have a third residence that few know about. The private residence in question is located at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands, which Queen Elizabeth II often uses as a summer retreat. The three-bedroom secret cottage is called Tam-Na-Ghar, and so little is known about it that there are no photos of its interior or exterior.

Information about Tam-Na-Ghar is relatively sparse. In a 2021 piece from Marie Claire, the magazine reported that “it appears that they rarely” stay at the queen’s home in Balmoral, Scotland. This is because Kate and William have their own residence on the Balmoral Estate, the three-bedroom cottage Tam-Na-Ghar. Marie Claire further reported that William and Kate have, according to close friends, spent some of their best times together at the private cottage. Other than that, there hasn’t been much reporting on the cottage.

With a beautiful cottage in Scotland and two incredible residences in London and Norfolk, it may come as a surprise to know that William and Kate are looking for another residence to move into. The Daily Mail reported that a source told them that the Cambridge family "will move to Berkshire and start a quiet life in the country" because Kate and William understand that at "this stage in their life suburbia makes perfect sense."

The source also said that the Duke and Duchess have their eyes on Fort Belvedere, which is a Grade II listed house towards the southern end of Windsor Great Park, where King Edward VIII – the queen’s uncle – signed his abdication papers in 1936 and changed the course of the monarchy in the process.

While currently William and Kate are splitting their time between London and Norfolk, it is reportedly proving to be a longer commute since their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis attend school in London. A move to Windsor would be helpful as well because Kate and William could base the family there full time and commute towards London when required

The Daily Mail also reported that this move to Windsor would bring the family closer to both Elizabeth and Kate's parents in Bucklebury Manor. In many ways, the move is strategic as well as practical as the monarchy prepares to take on new directions in the future. If Kate and William's move, it would be the most significant sign that the couple is preparing to take on a far more senior role as royals.

The queen is set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee on Feb 6, 2022, and once she reaches this milestone, Elizabeth becomes the longest-reigning monarch ever in British Royal family history. While the queen has shown herself to be an incredible leader, the loss of her beloved husband of over seven decades, Prince Philip, in April 2021 had left her heartbroken.

While the queen has previously stated that she may never abdicate, it is clear that the 95-year-old monarch requires more help with the royal duties as time goes on. She will be passing on more important royal duties to her son Prince Charles, as well as to William and Kate, who have proven to be strong and dedicated members of the royal family as well.
