B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most renowned yoga instructors in the world said: “The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.” As Leo Tolstoy said, “Our body is a machine for living.” Whether you view your body in the sense of a machine or a temple, the body is a certainly a vessel for our energies, emotions, personality, thoughts, and everything else that makes us who we are and drives us to accomplish what we want in life.
Ancient cultures have placed so much significance upon the body and what each area represents that some even believe that we gravitate toward certain areas of the body in a subconscious pecking order as representation of what we hold most dear and sacred.
What You Wash First On Your Body May Reveal A Lot About Your Personality
The ancient belief about body parts being representative of your personality has been best demonstrated during bathing. The act of bathing requires you to subconsciously give priority, dominance, and importance to a specific area to be washed first. The thought is that this is the part you hold most sacred, and that pecking order reveals much about your personality. Let’s explore:
Auxiliary energy channels, or chakra, are abundant in the feet. They’re connected with being grounded within the physical body, an anchor of light spiritually, and the first contact with immediate reality. The foot is a symbol of completeness and humility. People who wash their feet first are likely very concerned with the rights of all living things and connected to the earth and its well-being. You’re also likely very grounded, down to earth, and secure in your own body.
If you find yourself washing your legs or arms first, your personality is likely nomadic. Our extremities are what we rely upon for gross movement and fluidness throughout our physical space. You value being carefree, unrestrained, and nonchalant. A goodly portion of your time is spent being very physically active, but your mind is also highly active as it constantly dreams of mystical and far away places.
While the immediate assumption would be that washing your private area first would indicate a very sexual being, the truth is that you’re very reserved, shy, and tend to be self-depreciating in the presence of others. You’re equally as sensitive as you are genuine, but it takes a long time for people to get to know you beyond a surface level.
You find yourself easily on the right paths in life because you feel very comfortable in your own skin - confident, self-assured, and independent. An alpha personality is what you’re most often described as by others. The chest holds many vital organs, including the lungs and heart. You value life and feel very protective and proud of it.
The spine is the basis for individual consciousness and energy. Life begins here and is carried through the nervous system to support your every thought and movement. It’s literally the backbone of support for the entire body. It’s human nature to protect and cherish such a vital component to life.
Washing your back first shows a reserved, cautious, prudent personality. You think deeply on the magnitude and meaning of things, and people don’t earn your trust easily. You’re often introverted and safety-first oriented. Solitude isn’t something you mind, and you often actually favor it over socializing.
Your hands are a symbol of physical and mental fortitude and strength. You value solidarity and unity. A one-for-all attitude makes you either a friend or enemy to most. Fear isn’t in your vocabulary. Consequences be dammed, you have no hesitation in idealistically standing up for whatever you feel is right.
You’re steadfast, loyal, and reliable if you wash your underarms right off the bat. You’ll stand by your friends in good and bad times, even if it’s at your own detriment. Your kindhearted nature has a limit, though. Once someone betrays you, then you’re done with them.
The face is the only area capable of utilizing all your senses - smell, sight, touch, taste, and hearing. Washing your face first means that you care deeply about what you sense and how you’re perceived by others. In other words, you’re always worried about what other people think about you. You get frustrated easily, leading to embarrassment and stress. You hate to be criticized.
9. Top Of Your Head
If you wash your head or hair first, you have a great attention to order. You’re strong-willed, opinionated, and want everything to be in it’s rightful place, but you’re also highly realistic and reasonable. Time-management is one of your most admirable qualities. You’re always on time and like to follow a routine.
10. Neck And Shoulders
You symbolically carry the heavy burden of being a competitive overachiever. If others are reaching for the stars, then you reach for the stars and moon. You refuse to accept anything less than yes, I can, I will, and I did. Hard work is your motto.
