The HBO series Game of Thrones is an international sensation. After eight seasons, legions of fans, and countless awards, the fantasy drama will say goodbye to audiences later this month.
However, one lucky, and rich, fan may get the chance to own an integral part of the show’s history.
Gosford Castle, the real location of the show’s bastion of Riverrun, is now for sale in Northern Ireland’s County Armagh. Riverrun is famous in Game of Thrones for being the seat of House Tully and the childhood home of Catelyn Stark, the mother of iconic characters Arya, Sansa, Bran, and Robb Stark.

Bids for Gosford Castle start at £500,000, or $650,000, not much when you consider the importance of the location both to Game of Thrones and to the wider region. The castle was built in the mid-19th Century by Archibald Acheson, the second Earl of Gosford. In Gosford Castle’s storied history, it served as a barracks for troops during World War II as well as a prisoner of war camp. Over the years, the location also saw many guests as a splendid hotel. Beginning in 2006, major renovations totaling £4 million began at Gosford Castle, with the property managers intent on restoring the location to its historic integrity and character.
The castle is divided into six rooms, each with names that would not be out of place in the Seven Kingdoms, including “The Round Keep” and “The Inner Bailey.” Game of Thrones fans should note that while the castle and all of its wonderful views are for sale, it comes completely unfurnished, so you may have to hire the Golden Company or a horde of Dothraki if you want to sit on the Iron Throne.
