Thanks To The Strangers Who Funded Miracle Surgery, Young Girl With Backward Legs Starts Walking

Because of the kindness of strangers, a little girl born with a leg disorder gets to walk for the first time.

According to the Inside Edition, Victoria Komada, a vivacious three-year-old, was born with bilateral tibial hemimelia. Babies born with bilateral tibial hemimelia also develop shorter leg bones issues with the feet and ankles that make it difficult if not impossible for them to walk.

Once, babies born with bilateral tibial hemimelia once needed to have their legs amputated. They were then fitted with prosthetic limbs. Now, a surgery makes walking without amputation possible for many children born with the disorder.

Victoria’s parents didn’t want their baby’s legs to be amputated. So they searched for and found a Florida surgeon who could reconstruct the little girl’s legs. The only problem with obtaining this surgery was the cost. The estimated cost of this highly specialized surgery was estimated to be $235,000.

Thousands of families donated money so the family could go to America and get the surgery done for little Victoria. When they reached the US, a doctor at the Paley Institute in Palm Beach told the parent that Victoria’s left leg could be reconstructed. Her right leg would then use prosthetic legs.

The first surgery on Victoria’s leg lasted for 9 hours. A few months later, she underwent an additional surgery to fuse the bones in her left leg. Two days after her second surgery, Victoria was able to walk!

Now Victoria is back at her home in Norwich, Norfolk. She underwent two operations in nine months. But now Victoria can walk, run and play like other children her age. Marzena, who is Victoria’s mother, said she was initially afraid of her daughter having the surgery. Now she’s thrilled about the way her daughter can move around without assistance.

Thanks so much to the strangers who donated to Victoria’s surgery and living expenses during this time. If you enjoyed Victoria’s heartwarming story, make sure you pass it along to your friends and family.
