Every February 14, Valentine’s Day rolls around, giving couples everywhere the opportunity to show just how much they mean to each other. For those without that special someone, Valentine’s Day can be pretty lonely, however. Instead of spending time with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you might sit alone and watch TV all day. A high school boy from Texas decided that this year, he would make every girl in his school feel special on Valentine’s Day by giving each of them a flower as a gift in a now viral news story.

Jayme Wooley, a sophomore at Axtell High School, was on a field trip in nearby Dallas when he came up with an incredible idea. With Valentine’s Day only two days away, Jayme thought that it would be a great idea to pass out flowers to the 170 girls that attend Axtell High. Contacting his mother, Amy Gordon, Jayme asked for her help in the endeavor. Amy was more than willing to help her son spread joy that Valentine’s Day and the two picked out a flower for each and every girl that attends Axtell High.

When the big day finally came, Jayme stood outside the doors of the school and handed out the flowers. While all the girls were happy to have a flower that Valentine’s Day, many were shocked by the kind gesture. In interviews with KETV News, many of the recipients of Jayme’s flowers were glad to see that he was thinking of others on Valentine’s Day rather than just himself. Others said that the gesture made them feel special as they did not receive anything from anyone else that day.

As news of Jayme’s act of goodwill spread around the community, Amy was contacted by women in their 30s and 40s on Facebook. The older ladies thanked Amy for raising Jayme to be so kind, saying that they never received any flowers when they were in high school. In response, Amy said that her son has the biggest heart of anyone in her life. The proud mom further said that she couldn’t describe the feeling that came when she saw how happy the girls were from Jayme’s gesture, hugging him and giving lots of smiles.

As Jayme’s fame grew, the Axtell Independent School District made him student of the week, crediting his kindness with making the school a better place. When asked by reporters about what inspired him to pass out the flowers, Jayme told CNN that in past years, he was heartbroken to see girls being left emptyhanded on Valentine’s Day. Oftentimes, Jayme continued, only the popular girls would be the recipient of any gifts on Valentine's Day. Although he himself did not have any special person to spend the day with, Jayme is just glad that he could make so many people happy on such a special day.

In the end, Jayme’s action is proof that one doesn’t need to move mountains to make a positive impact in the world. The lives of every man, woman, and child can be improved if we all care for one another and just be kind.
