After a long day, going to a restaurant with your family can be just the respite one needs. From exploring different cuisines to spending quality time with our friends and loved ones, a restaurant offers a lot of options for different kinds of people. The type of restaurant commands how a person should dress and act within it, however; a 5-star restaurant has an entirely different ambiance to it than a fast-food restaurant. Needless to say, most people would like to feel comfortable wherever they go to eat, and this comfort is something that most restaurants put above others when it comes to their policies.

However, one restaurant in Texas has recently come under scrutiny due to its newly introduced dress code policy. The Turkey Leg Hut, located in Houston, Texas, posted on its social media pages about the new rules within their restaurants, and it has been controversial in some ways as it has brought out many strong opinions.

Some people believe that every restaurant has the right to enforce rules they think are fit, while other people are questioning the idea of being told what to wear as this treads on their freedom. Social media is always a platform that fosters a discussion and debate, and this restaurant's recent actions have gained national attention for their new rules. While many people have lauded the return to what they deem is "decency," others have been left wondering if a change in dress code will actually answer underlying problems.

The restaurant wrote on their Facebook post, "Please know that we are a family friendly restaurant that serves all ages from children to adults daily...Unfortunately, due to the attire of some guests, we were forced to put this new policy in place as we remain committed to ensuring all guests are comfortable while visiting us. We are not a club, we are a family friendly restaurant and will continue to maintain our standards as we welcome everyone to the Turkey Leg Hut!"

Among other rules, the restaurant required that people should wear "no excessively revealing clothing," "no obscene language or baggy clothing," as well as "no house attire. This includes wave caps, durags or shower caps."

About the new rules, one person commented, "I’m curious to see how this plays out. Yes, their place, their rules buuuuuut." Many people welcomed the policy, however, and the post has many encouraging comments.

One of the top comments stated, "What amazes me are the negative comments. When did it become appropriate to wear the majority of these items to a restaurant? Secondly, when did we start calling an establishment "bougie" for requesting a dress code? A place of business has every right to reset and reestablish standards for their establishment. Either you get with it or don't patronize it anymore."

Other people wondered whether a dress code policy could really be a major rebrand, "I really hope the owners are reading these comments and thinking long and hard about their decision to establish this dress code... Rebranding is okay and well within their right, but this is a good time to take a step back and reassess why and what the possible outcomes could be."
