Texas Prom Couple Goes Viral With Their "Dumb and Dumber" Outfits — and the Comment That Summed It All Up Is Perfect

Senior prom is one of those milestones that tends to look the same from year to year — formal dresses, rented tuxedos, corsages, and posed photos in someone's living room. Brennon Allen had a different idea. The senior at Trinity Christian School in Atlanta, Texas, had been thinking about how to make his prom night stand out when the answer arrived in the most ordinary way possible: a clip from a 1994 comedy popped up on his Instagram feed.

The film was "Dumb and Dumber." The clip was the scene where Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels' characters — Lloyd and Harry — show up to a charity ball in matching orange and blue suits, top hats, and canes, completely convinced they are the best-dressed men in the room. For Brennon, it was instant inspiration. "I was talking to my girlfriend and was like, 'You know, it's our senior prom. I want to make it memorable,'" he told the New York Post. "'That would be such a good color scheme to pick from.'"

The film had been released 14 years before Brennon was born — but he estimates he has seen it at least seven times. He credits his mother, Brooke, for making sure he grew up on the classics. "We're those parents that we're like, 'You're going to watch all the classics,'" Brooke said. "She had to make sure I was raised right," Brennon added.

His girlfriend, Olivia King, a student at Atlanta High School, was on board from the start. The couple had been dating for more than a year. Only a handful of people knew what they were planning. Most of their classmates had no idea what was coming when Brennon and Olivia walked in on April 18, 2026.

The couple arrived at the prom, held at The Collins Home — a historic event space in Texarkana — exactly as planned. Brennon wore a bright orange suit. Olivia wore a pale blue dress. Both had matching top hats and carried canes. The moment they walked in, the room reacted.

"When we walked in, we had the top hats and the canes, everybody was wanting to wear them and get the canes and fight with them," Brennon recalled.

Brennon's mother, Brooke, had taken before-and-after photos of the couple outside — a jump shot before they left, and another at prom. On a whim, she put the two clips together and posted the video. "I just told them, kind of on a whim, I was like, 'Y'all hold hands and jump,'" she said. "And then, when I got to prom, I was like, 'OK, do it again.' And I didn't know what I was gonna do with it."

What she did with it was accidentally go viral. The clip collected more than 2.3 million combined views across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The comments were overwhelmingly positive — so much so that Brooke made a follow-up video thanking viewers. "I was so thrilled that everybody loved it so much," she said.

Brennon's favorite comment was a riff on one of the film's most quoted lines — the moment Harry tells Lloyd, "Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this … and totally redeem yourself!" The internet adapted it:

"Just when I think this generation couldn't possibly be any dumber, they go and do something like this … aaaaand TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES!!!"

As Homecoming King, school rules prevented Brennon from also running for Prom King. But by any measure, the night was already won.
