San Antonio police officers were recently treated to a surprise during their morning roll call. Instead of the usual serious routine, Officer Billy Morgan picked up a guitar and performed an exceptional cover of the great Johnny Cash song, “Folsom Prison Blues.”

The officers were stunned by his rendition of the song. It’s been said that Morgan delivers a very convincing impression of Johnny Cash. Before he gave the amazing performance, Morgan explained that it was one of his favorite Johnny Cash songs, even though the subject matter of prison was not very uplifting. Nevertheless, the performance was well received.

Officer Morgan explained that, since the job was so serious, the officers occasionally need distractions to lighten the mood.

Since he had experience as a professional singer, he decided to perform during roll call in order to help his coworkers start the day with a brighter mood.

As might be expected, one of the observing officers recorded the performance, and it was shared online.

Within a month, the video was shared over 5,000 times and it received over 400,000 views.

Officer Garza, who posted the performance online, was very impressed with Morgan’s talent. His video caption humorously suggested that people who encounter Morgan on the street might be treated to some good singing.

If you’ve never seen an on-duty cop break into song, watch this video of Officer Morgan’s surprise performance at the San Antonio police station. You should be quite impressed with his talent.

Morgan explained that he wants people to know that policemen are just regular working folks like everyone else and that they’re capable of having fun and having a sense of humor. Officer Morgan has a fair amount of experience in music.

He started performing as a teenager until he joined the U.S. Air Force. After he completed his military duties, he had a brief career as a professional singer.
