Zach Skow was working at a comedy club in Arizona when he learned that years of heavy drinking had destroyed his liver. Without a successful transplant, doctors only gave Zach three months to live. Unfortunately, Zach wasn't going to get a transplant liver unless he could remain sober for six months, he told People

To help with the recovery process, Zach adopted Marley, Buddy, and Tug from a local shelter. These three dogs did everything with their owner and gave Zach a new reason to live.

“My dogs were all looking at me like I was the sexiest man alive,” he recalls. “They didn’t see the desperation, they just saw the person that they love. They were looking forward to a future.

When these three furballs met Zach, he was unhealthy, skinny, and dying. Their dependency helped Zach realize that other people needed his health to improve.

Taking care of a dog is no easy task. These responsibilities are tripled when three different dogs are brought into the picture. Zach soon discovered that the presence of these dogs helped improve his health through constant diet and exercise.

The constant attention and work needed to care for the dogs also helped Zach to remain sober. The doctors were confused by Zach's miraculous recovery.

One day, the doctors revealed that Zach no longer needed a new liver. His new lifestyle had improved the condition of his organs to a great extent. Zach has since founded the non-profit Marley's Mutts.

This organization rescues and rehabilitates dogs from a high-kill animal shelter. Through Zach's efforts, over 5,000 dogs have been saved. Miracle Mutts is an offshoot of the main organization that seeks to teach people about the healing results of dog ownership.

Zach has helped many different people in difficult situations. His organization reaches out to hospitals with terminal ill patients to help bring a sense of purpose and happiness into their lives. Marley's Mutts has also worked with prisons to help inmates feel happier and free.

Dogs have the amazing ability to see a human for their internal value rather than their outward appearance. Dog's show unconditional love to anyone who will show love and affection in return.

Zach felt this love from his three dogs and knows first-hand how the connection between man and dog can lead to a positive transformation. Zach has remained sober and is still living with his original liver. He only has three dogs to thank for the speedy recovery. Doctors are still surprised by the transformation.

It is amazing to see Zach's efforts to share this experience with others through his non-profit organizations. Everyone deserves to experience the magical relationship that forms between dog and owner.
