Tennessee Teen Crowned 'Homecoming Royalty' While Rocking Full-Length Gown

Like most high schools, White Station High School, in Memphis, Tennessee, crowned their Homecoming Royalty during a recent football game.

A 100 percent student vote chooses the winner, according to Superintendent Joris Ray. This year the royalty was wearing a gold dress. It was later complemented with a bouquet of flowers as he was announced the winner. Aside from the flowers, he was given a tiara and a sash.

Brandon Allen Wins The Crown Brandon Allen said he attempted to be a part of the homecoming court during the last few years. However, each time, his attempts were unsuccessful. After he was announced as the winner, the senior said he is grateful for being a role model.

That was until the school decided to scrap the terms "Queen" and "King" to be more inclusive. And thus, Brandon's dream came true on Friday in the football field of White Station High School.

"I always felt like I was a queen," he told the Inside Edition. "I always felt like I am that business. I am that news. I am me."

Allen Hopes To Encourage Other LGBTQ Students Allen hopes that his win will encourage other LGBTQ students to relax and be themselves. He explained that the community is here. He said, "we're in schools." He went on to say that the community is out there living their best lives, and no one is going to stop us. He added, " I'm going to be myself."

The school's principal Carrye Holland praised Brandon and the whole school for being so inclusive.

"Here's the thing: it's Brandon's right to run for homecoming royalty under Title IX. It's the students' choice of who they want to support as homecoming royalty. I'm exceedingly proud to be the principal of our amazing school," she wrote on social media, according to the publication.

Brandon Allen is not only homecoming royalty, but he is also a hero to the LGBTQ community. Hopefully, there will be additional gender-neutral titles in the future. It is hoped that many people will have the opportunity to read about this fantastic chapter in American society.
