Teens Electrocuted While Attempting To Save Dog Trapped in Canal

Jake Hourmouzus, Jacob Schneider, two of their other friends and one four-legged canine companion set out into the farmlands and orchards of Dixon, California on April 1st to have a great time together riding four-wheelers. Unfortunately, the day didn’t end up how they planned.

While they were driving through the orchards that were next to a canal, their dog attempted to get across the water but accidentally found himself in the canal. Knowing that someone needed to save the animal and bring it to safety,

Schneider decided to rescue the dog, leaning himself against a metal bridge in the water for some stability. That’s when things went wrong.

What none of the friends could have expected was that the bridge was extremely hot. No one could have known that the bridge had some exposed wires that made it a safety risk. These wires would later be the cause of two fatalities on this fateful spring day.

When Schneider grabbed onto the bridge, his friends saw that something was immediately wrong and knew they had to step in. But when Hourmouzus decided to save his friend, he didn’t realize that the bridge was the culprit.

Just like his friend, he also grabbed the bridge for stability and became electrocuted as well. One of their friends saw what was happening and was able to separate the boys from the bridge, but not before it took the lives of both Schneider and Hourmouzus.

The dog that the boys were attempting to save was rescued without injury, but now the families of the two boys that passed away are struggling to deal with the heartbreaking and instantaneous death of their sons. Obviously, the families of these boys are hurting and deserve all of our thoughts and prayers.

Thankfully, their mothers are now speaking out against safety risks like the ones that the bridge posed to the public. Candy Carillo, Hourmouzus’ mother, wants others to be aware of this dangerous bridge and thinks that there should be warnings and signs in place to block accessibility to the area.

Although these boys died in an untimely and unfortunate manner, they will always be remembered as courageous heroes that did their best to save an animal in danger. You can learn more about the accident in the video below.
