I know as a big sister I have taught my younger siblings some things and I loved doing it. This involved learning to say new words, silly dances, and even some educational things like counting but what I taught my siblings was nothing like what Jade did.

Jade is the older sister to Christian Kidluff. Christian, who is now four, was born with cerebral palsy and visual impairment. This was due to his brain not receiving oxygen as needed during birth.

His mom, Diana, was told by medical staff that he wouldn’t be able to walk, talk, or have any kind of quality of life. Little did they know that Christian would prove them wrong, according to Fox News

And, a good park of that is all because of his big sister. Jade started taking a course in Makaton which is type of sign language. She did this because she wanted to teach and give Christian a way to communicate.

Makaton is designed by using symbols and signs in order for people to communicate. It’s used as a support to spoken language. The symbols and signs are used in the same order as spoken words are.

When using Makaton, adults and children are able to communicate easily with the symbols and signs. As speech progresses, often times the symbols and signs are dropped.

“Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate,” the Makaton website reads. “It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.”

Jade was determined to make a difference in Christian’s life. She also felt this could make an impact for other children with disabilities as well. She feels that Christian is a miracle and he brings everyone amazement daily.

In their journey, Jade began “Sign Along with Us”. This is where she and her brother demonstrate how to sign words and some phrases. She hopes that showing others how to use Makaton will help to improve their lives too. Jade has a Facebook and also a YouTube where you can find the demonstrations.

She speaks very highly of her little brother and at only 17 she seems to understand his condition much more than some adults.

This wonderful sister is an example of what all older sisters should strive to be like. She is using her talent and knowledge to help her family and others across the world.
