17-year-old Josiah Siska performed a Johnny Cash song in his audition for American Idol and left the judges speechless.

Josiah Siska is a huge Johnny Cash fan from Dacula, Georgia. Therefore it’s only natural that he chose to sing a Johnny Cash song when he auditioned in front of the American Idol judges Harry Connick, Jr, Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban in 2016.

As the then 17-year-old walked into the audition room, the judges didn’t expect too much of the young-looking guy but when he started to perform “Ghost Riders” he took them by surprise with Keith Urban saying: “I was not expecting that.”

All three judges were speechless while they watched Josiah flawlessly singing Johnny Cash’s song with a voice even lower than the famous country singer.

Josiah’s family was also witnessing his performance through a television set up outside the audition room. As they followed his audition Josiah’s father commented: “He’s having a good time.”

His father’s comment was about to become even more true as the judges began to praise Josiah’s performance that amazed all three of them. While Harry Connick called Josiah’s Johnny Cash rendition “just cool,” Keith Urban added: “We haven’t heard anything like that. You’re definitely on your own lane.”

Josiah received a golden ticket for his amazing performance which allowed him to move on to the next round of the show, the Hollywood Week in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it past the second night of the Hollywood Week and was send back home.

Being eliminated from the show, however, wasn’t any reason for Josiah to stop living his dream as American Idol hadn't been his first experience on stage. Before the show, he had starred in multiple musical productions of his High School in Lawrenceville, GA. Amongst others, he appeared in “The Phantom of the Opera” or “The Little Mermaid”.

But his true passion is being a solo artist. Apart from his appearances in school musicals Josiah therefore also performed as a solo artist singing in front of larger audiences at his school. He realized that mesmerizing people with his solo performance filled him with joy and that’s why he decided to audition for American Idol.

Even though he didn’t make it that far in the show he knew that his passion for music would never fade so he kept going and even released his own acoustic album called  “Josiah Siska-Pure Country” that features his original songs.
