However, being overweight was proving to be a hindrance in reaching his goals. Luis knew that he would have to commit to losing weight if he wanted to file the enlistment papers and pass the physical requirements set forth by the Army.
At the time that he decided to lose the weight, Luis was working as an electrician at construction sites in Las Vegas. Because had to lose at least 112 pounds to meet the weight requirements, Luis knew he had to drastically change his diet. The first place that he started in his weight loss journey was to reduce his carb intake and make a commitment to exercising.
Luis credits his mom for being a constant source of encouragement as he underwent this major life transformation. As a bonus, Luis said that he had a complete shift in attitude, showing more confidence than ever before, reports Fox.
Luis' dream came true and he was finally able to enlist in the Army as a 14E, a Patriot Fire Control enhanced operator/maintainer. Basic training starts at the beginning of September and Luis will be on his way to meeting all of his life goals.
