Jakelia Baker is only 17, but she's already shown the world that hard work can pay off. The Georgia teenager spent her high school years determined to achieve as much as possible. This led to her becoming her high school's valedictorian.

Just as determined to do well in college, she devoted her senior year at Lucy C. Laney High School to sending out college applications. She applied to every school she could imagine getting into.

The result? An incredible 55 colleges sent her acceptance letters.

You read that right. She was accepted into not five, not 10, but 55 schools, including highly regarded institutions like Penn State.

Even more impressive, she received $1.3 million in scholarship funding!

According to the teen, she used all of her free time on weekends and between activities to send out applications.

It's shocking that she had any downtime at all! Jakelia participated in soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and golf. If that's not enough, she was also part of the student council, marching band, academic decathlon, and math team. She was in the National Honor Society too.

Jakelia admits that it wasn't always easy. Her years were packed full, with one activity following the next throughout the semesters. Her social life suffered -- she didn't go to many of the same parties or events that her fellow students did.

She credits her mother, Denise, with giving her the strength and determination to achieve. Her mother, an Army veteran, kept her motivated through high school and the grueling college application process. They applied to 65 schools, using application fee waivers to make it affordable.

Denise couldn't be any prouder of her daughter.

She says that Jakelia didn't want to regret anything about her high school years. As for Jakelia, she urges other high school students to apply to college and never give up.
