Ohio teen Morgan Roseberry was diagnosed with autism at the young age of three and since then, he has sought comfort and companionship in the family pet, a kitten named Tabby. Shortly after her demise, Morgan's family surprises him with a new present on his 18th birthday. He is given a new kitten and immediately begins crying out of joy.

People often underestimate how difficult it is to live with autism. One of the most important skills to have is being able to emotionally express yourself. People with autism struggle with doing so and require a helping hand, whether it is from a human, object, or animal.

Plenty of people with conditions such as dementia and PTSD have found themselves relying on their animal companions for safety and comfort. It is no surprise that animals help people with such issues because companion pets or guide dogs are still being used to this day.

A video was recently shared by an autism awareness nonprofit organization, in which the effects of an animal on someone with autism were shown.

The video shows Morgan Roseberry, an 18-year-old male with autism. After 10 years with the family pet, a cat named Tabby, the two had become extremely close. His mother comments on their relationship to Metro, saying:

"Morgan found an unquestioning, nonjudgmental companion in Tabby. She was skittish and solitary when she first arrived, but within a short period of time, she became loving and affectionate, especially with Morgan."

Unfortunately, his beloved companion passed away in September of 2019.

Morgan was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder art the tender age of three. About his condition, his mother said:

"He couldn't have a back and forth conversation. After extensive testing, he was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a condition within the autism spectrum."

Asperger's Syndrome is a condition in which the individual has better functioning capabilities. While he/she may be socially awkward and find it difficult to communicate effectively, behavior classes and therapy can help a person lead a more successful life, even with autism. This form of autism is generally rare and has fewer than 200,000 cases annually.

Thankfully, Morgan received a wonderful surprise on his 18th birthday. His family had gone to a nearby rescue shelter and found him a new pal to love and cherish.

"On the morning of the party, his two older sisters went to the rescue site to select the most appropriate companion for him. They found the perfect little girl and took her to his oldest sister's house to hang out and wait for the big reveal," Cyndi said.

The video shows Morgan's reaction to his new gift. He is initially gifted cat supplies and treats before the cat, arousing some suspicion about his last gift. He inquires if his last gift is a cat to which he is given a box with his brand new friend in it.

Morgan's eyes immediately tear up as he holds his new friend close and cradles it. He decided to name the kitten Vitani, the name of one of his favorite characters in the film, The Lion King.

The family claims that they never expected the video to get all the views that it had accumulated. They find it truly heartwarming that people found joy in watching it. While they hope that it will bring a smile to its viewers, the family also hopes that it will raise awareness for autism.
