Teen Sees Toddler Desperately Flailing In Pool And Leaps Over Fence To Rescue Her

Jun 22, 2018 by apost team

Last month, a thirteen-year-old girl named Haylei McGillis leaped over an apartment complex's fence to get to a child who was flailing in the pool.

It's not unusual for children to gather by a pool in the summertime. But then Haylei noticed that a toddler was in the pool by themselves and flailing her arms as she struggled to stay afloat in the water. Haylei says that the girl was moving her arms around, then stopping for a quick second, then continuing with the motions.

The pool was closed and no lifeguard was on duty.

The incident occurred around 8 PM. Other children were making an effort to save the girl by throwing her a hose and trying to get her to latch on. Haylei wasn't going to wait to see whether the girl managed to get the hose, though.

She scaled the entire fence surrounding the complex, leaped into the pool, and towed the toddler to safety. The girl coughed up water, but otherwise suffered no injuries.

In the days since, Haylei has been hailed as a hero throughout her community.

The story has spread like wildfire over social media and news sites. Haylei's quick actions saved a little girl's life. Her decisiveness and ability to think in a crisis helped her to do exactly the right thing.
