Inspired by a financial guru she saw on the Rachael Ray Show, Fourteen-year-old Janessia saved all $5 bills she received as chore and birthday money over the course of one year and eventually went on the show to present everything she had saved expecting it to be about $200.

As a teen, it can be hard to save money. One has to learn to budget their allowance instead of spending it on cool clothes or new gadgets. Not many teens understand how important it is in life to save money to provide for one's children or to use it in an emergency.

14-year-old Janessia started becoming aware of the importance of saving her money as she watched an episode of the Rachael Ray Show that featured Alexa von Tobel, a financial guru who claimed that if one saves about five dollars per week, one definitely ends up with a substantial amount of money over the course of one year.

Hearing the financial guru’s advice inspired Janessia to try it for herself. During the following year, the teen saved all the money she earned for doing her chores or received as birthday money.

When the year was over, Janessia went on the Rachael Ray Show to present the money she had saved. When Rachael Ray asked her what she estimated her savings to be, the 14-year-old guessed it to be about $200.

But Janessia turned out to be very wrong. When Alexa von Tobel revealed how much Janessia had actually saved, the teen and her mom were stunned to hear that the 14-year-old had actually saved up an impressive $1,400

Janessia was more than surprised and her mother was incredibly proud to see that her daughter had already learned how important and rewarding saving money can be at such a young age.
