A Laval, Quebec teen has been deemed a hero after saving an abducted woman from her abusive ex-boyfriend, reports CBC. Malyk Bonnet was on his way home from work when he spotted a couple that seemed to be arguing at a bus station.

He cautiously approached the two of them in fear that the man was about to strike the woman. After he introduced himself, the man asked Malyk for some money to get to Laval. Instead of just handing over the funds, Malyk offered to ride with them.

This way, he could ensure that the situation would not escalate to something more violent. He figured that if he kept the two in a public place, the odds of the man becoming aggressive were much slimmer.

As they were riding on the bus, Malyk struck up a friendly conversation with the man in order to earn his trust. When they arrived at the Laval station, he even offered to buy the couple a meal.

They both agreed, and Malyk maintained his friendly demeanor while thinking of ways that he could call authorities without the man finding out. Since Malyk's phone died, he was going to have to find a way to alert officials.

While the couple was eating, Malyk excused himself to use the restroom. He explained the situation to another person and borrowed their cell phone to call the police and they soon arrived to arrest the man.

Since Malyk did such a good job of composing himself during his time with the couple, the man had no idea that Malyk had phoned officials even after they arrived on the scene.

The police informed Malyk that this man had been wanted on previous charges of assault and death threats towards his ex-girlfriend. The cops were already chasing him for abducting the woman, making Malyk a true hero for intervening.

Malyk's heroism was recognized by the police, who were so impressed by his bravery that they started a collection to reimburse what Malyk spent on food and bus tickets. The collection was double what he paid.

In response, Malyk told CBC, “I mean yo, money ain’t nothing. Food ain’t nothing. For a life? A life is really more important than my money.”

Of course, his biggest recognition came from his mother who Malyk says is "so proud" of him. He said, "She bought like eight Journals [a Montreal newspaper that Malyk was on the front page of]. She’s like, ‘I’m going to show them to your kids one day.”

If it weren't for Malyk, officials claim that the woman's life would have been in immediate jeopardy. Lt. Daniel Guérin and the rest of the force claim that the actions of this Laval teen are truly heroic. According to Malyk, the victim did not say anything at the time of the arrest, but the expression on her face said it all.
