School concerts are a big event in the school year but it's not that often that the quality of a performance is so remarkable that it stays with the audience for long after it's finished. However, one performance from 2016 proved to be so incredible that it not only stuck with the audience but it's since gone on to viral internet fame.

The performance was done by a 16-year-old student named Ruben Liversage. The teenager chose to perform Simon And Garfunkel's hit song "The Sound of Silence." While the original song is incredibly popular, it's also been covered many times by artists of all musical genres. That meant it wasn't clear exactly which direction Liversage would take his rendition.

One unique cover of the song came from the heavy metal band called Disturbed. The band was invited to perform the song on the "Conan O'Brien Show." The performance on the late-night program garnered more than 100 million views and even earned the praise of Paul Simon himself, as reported here by Forbes.

Just when you thought it could not get any better than the Disturbed cover, Liversage performed the song in a similar way to Disturbed but with his own fresh take. While nobody would have ever believed that Liversage would match the amazing vocal abilities of Disturbed's lead singer, David Draiman, somehow the young singer was able to pull it off with ease.

Not only was his singing on full display but Liversage's performance was bolstered by a number of dancers, which only added to the song's deep meaning.

As Liversage took to the stage at his school concert, the audience surely had no idea just what was in store. When his performance began, he could be seen standing on stage in the spotlight. Dressed in a crisp white suit, the teenager looked like a professional performer, years older than he was at the time. His deep bellowing voice became instantly noticeable to anyone that listened — that is no average vocal ability! It became clear from the get-go that Liversage had a gift.

While the teen sang his heart out, dancers joined him on stage, where they performed an emotional routine that fit the song's somber tone. Soon enough, Liversage and the dancers were joined by a backup choir that harmonized with the teenager's singing. While the teenager's deep voice had everyone transfixed, the backup choir lent a grandiosity to Liversage's performance.

The performance made such an impression that it's since been viewed over 1.7 million times since it was uploaded in Aug. 2016! People were quick to write that Liversage should be signed to a record label immediately. One user wrote:

"HOLY CRAP THIS KID IS AMAZING!! Someone give him a contract!"

Meanwhile, another added:

"Someone get this guy an America's Got Talent application. That was phenomenal!!"

One person commented on the entire performance and just how great everyone involved was. They wrote:

"The choreography and staging added so much. ALL of the participants made this a great performance. This young man understands "showmanship". His voice will keep developing. Keep singing young man."

In fact, Liversage himself commented on the video and gave thanks to all those who supported him. He said:

"Thank you all for the comments and support, and especially for all the advice and hard comments, they've helped me take my voice to new heights over the past few years!"

"The Sound of Silence" is a legendary song that has been covered by many artists from all over the world. Written by Simon between 1963 and 1964, the song was released on Simon & Garfunkel's first album "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." Unfortunately, however, the record was a commercial failure and actually led to the pair disbanding.

But after it received some radio play and a new remix, which the band wasn't informed about until after it was released, "The Sound of Silence" became a major hit and went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It even led the duo to reunite and create a second album, which they titled "Sounds of Silence" to capitalize on the track's success. The pair's music went on to soundtrack the movie "The Graduate" and from there they never slowed down, becoming one of the 1960s' best-selling artists.

With such an incredible song history, it's only fitting that Liversage delivered such a moving rendition of "The Sound of Silence." However, it is hard to believe that he is only a teenager when you hear his vocal range and undeniable abilities at hitting every note. It is clear that Liversage is destined for greatness when you watch this electrifying performance and we look forward to seeing what he might come up with next.
