A young lady in Tennessee is taking the term determination to a new level. Lamyrical Harris not only graduated as valedictorian of her high school while earning more than $1 million in scholarships, but she accomplished all of this while being a teenage mom.

Harris recently graduated from Trezevant High School in Memphis. During her junior year, she found out she was pregnant. Harris says she initially felt some concerns but decided to use her situation as motivation. The teen buckled down and became even more serious about her education goals.

“It just made me go 10 times harder,” Harris told CBS affiliate WREG.

Harris gave birth to her son Laderrious Moore and continued on her track to success. She says Laderrious helped inspire her to remain at the top of her class. The teen received academic honors, and before her senior year, she’d already been offered $200,000 in scholarships. By the time she was a senior, that number more than doubled to $500,000.

Trezevant High School bragged on its star student in a Facebook post which stated she’s received a total of $1,244,298 in academic scholarships. She is the first student from the high school to break the million dollar mark.

Harris has been accepted into 25 different schools.  The teen says while she’s not sure where she’ll end up, she will never forget her hometown that helped play a role in her success. Harris has promised to give back to the Trezevant High School community. She also says she’s raising her son in the hopes that he, too, may become valedictorian of his high school one day.
