Teen Is Angry At Her Mom For Cutting Her $5,000 Allowance

May 14, 2018 by apost team

It’s normal to give your kids an allowance for helping with chores around the house or babysitting younger family members, and depending on the income of the family, the payment is usually a modest amount. If there’s already a roof over your head and food on the table every day, an allowance is definitely a nice perk when you’re young.

But money from your parents is definitely a privilege and not a right, which is something 15-year-old Nicolette from California needs to hear.

The self-proclaimed brat was furious when her mother tried to cut down her monthly allowance from $5,000 to $1,000, and wrote to Dr. Phil for his help with this situation. Having grown up living a life of luxury buying designer shoes and handbags, Nicolette could not stomach the idea of receiving only $1,000 a month.

Nicolette and her mother, Nina, live in Beverly Hills, which only worsens the 15-year-old’s need to maintain a certain reputation. Expensive cars and large homes are all she’s ever known, and with a mom who is constantly working and rarely limits her daughter’s spending, it’s no surprise that Nicolette has evolved into the materialistic person that she is.

So when Nicolette’s mother finally decided to cut down on her monthly allowance, she felt it was appropriate to write to psychologist Dr. Phil about her “dire” situation.

“It’s true, I’m a brat.”

But how do you help someone who has had this lifestyle their whole life, and actually enjoys referring to themselves as a spoiled brat? The rich 15-year-old claims that she has to support herself with food and other basic necessities since her mother rarely has time for her.

Nina and Dr. Phil tried to explain to Nicolette how they worked for the luxuries they can now afford when the troubled teen demanded that her mother buy her a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a $200,000 SUV. Her mother admitted that Nicolette had spent at least $100,000 in the past year, and despite her monthly allowance, she would spend at least $10,000 on a credit card, which Nina would pay.

Dr. Phil had his work cut out for him, not just with Nicolette, but mother Nina as well.

The seasoned psychologist had a solution to their problem, which is good advice that could apply to almost every family. “Give her more love and less money,” he suggested, though Nicolette felt like the damage had already been done. Material items had taken the place of love from her mom, and it would take a lot of work to reverse it.

But the crowd could not contain their laughter when Dr. Phil had a second suggestion for Nina and Nicolette.
