A 16-year-old teen model recently attended his prom in Nottingham in the UK dressed in drag. He wore head to toe pink including a luscious blush wig, a floral jumpsuit, and stilettos. For Daniel Allen, it was a chance to show everyone who he truly is.

Daniel explained how he felt the moment he arrived at the prom to press:

"I felt really empowered as soon as I got out the car. People rushed over, parents, and even a grandma,” he told Nottinghamshire Live. “No one was expecting me to turn up in drag - 6 foot 2 inches with a pink wig and a custom made outfit from Milan."

Daniel is used to custom Italian outfits, however, as he has graced the catwalks of London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Milan as well.

The self-assured young man at prom was not always as empowered as he felt at that moment. Daniel explains that he came out at a young age, 13, and started wearing makeup. While the school was very supportive, classmates began to bully him and even told him to kill himself.

Daniel wanted to show the haters that he won’t stop being himself. He just finished up school and hopes to be a hairdresser while putting together his own drag show. His three brothers and parents are proud of him.

His mom told reporters that he as has been playing dress-up since the age of two, and she has been behind him every step of the way. Now, she is appalled at the state of the world for her son.

"It is getting ridiculous the amount of hate crime. It has got to stop. It is on the rise," she told Nottinghamshire Live. "Gay Pride is great for one day but I have seen the kids take the Pride stickers off their bags, put their clothes away so they don't get beat up on the way home. It is heartbreaking.”

His mom wants Daniel to live in a world with more color and for children and adults alike to be able to express themselves.

Our hats are off to Daniel Allen and his prom statement. Pass this on to others who might need some inspiration today.
