Teen Buys Her First Home At Just 19 Working At Fast Food Restaurant

Madison Pickering, 19-year old from Queensland, Australia is now a proud homeowner–and she paid for it all by herself.
How you may ask? The savvy teenager had been saving since her 11th birthday and put aside large amounts of money when she was working at her first job at a local McDonald's. Now, Pickering has done what many millennials and Gen Z-ers think is impossible for them.

A Current Affair reported on Friday, September 18 that Madison Pickering bought her new home that is currently under construction in Logan’s Pebble Creek Estate.
"Everyone I spoke to said, 'How did you do that? Oh, your parents must have given you this money,'" she told A Current Affair. "'No, my parents didn’t give me a penny. This is all I’ve worked for myself. I’ve done all this hard work on my own'," is what she replies to them.
Pickering’s dream of owning her own home started at the tender age of 11. She had saved up whatever little pocket money she could, and when as she turned 14 and could legally work, started a job at McDonald’s.
She was so committed to buying a house that she took on a full-time job as an online media manager to make more money, having just graduated from high school the year before and admitting into college.

In an interview with A Current Affair, Pickering's mom Raelene said that when her daughter turned 18 she got really serious about trying to get a home loan. But her first attempt to get financial approval was denied. She continued saving and got a home loan on her second attempt – a $300,000 (approximately US$218,600) house and land package.
"I had enough for a down payment, and that’s all that matters. And I think younger people who watch and want to do what I’ve done should understand that you don’t have to have the final prize. You just have to have a really good deposit," Pickering said.
Pickering and her mom go to the construction site every week to take photos that she wants to compile into a time-lapse post when the house is finished. She hopes the property will be the first of many.
Matthew Spencer, Pebble Creek Estate sales manager, described the 19-year-old's achievement as "pretty crazy,” when you consider her youthful age but he added that his team is very excited about her story.
