Although everyone goes through struggles in life, some people decide to feel sorry for themselves while others go out there and try to make things better. For one teenager, Chauncy Black, he decided to be his own hero and go out into the world to try to change his fate.

Although the 16-year-old had a place to live at his mother’s house, they were unable to afford food. So what was Chauncy to do? He found all of the spare change that he could and bought a bus ticket in order to get himself to a grocery store called Kroger. He decided that he was going to offer some work at the store in order to get some food. However, Chauncy could have never predicted the situation he was about to get himself into.

Once he made it to the store, Chauncy approached a stranger that would change his life. He decided to ask for an exchange. He offered to carry the man’s groceries to his car in order for a trade of some donuts to eat. The stranger’s name was Matt White, and he was touched by the request so he immediately said yes. Matt White wrote on his Facebook:

"This kid looked like he had been turned down 100 times. He looked ashamed, hungry and broken. In my heart I screamed a loud "yes!", but to him I just chuckled and said, "yeah dude, we'll get you some donuts."

Once Matt learned a little bit more about Chauncy’s story and how he and his mother had been going hungry, he was moved. He decided to fill up a cart with groceries that Chauncy would be able to take home. After he purchased the groceries, he learned that Chauncy was an amazing student with big hopes and dreams. Instead of taking the bus home, Matt gave Chauncy a ride with the purchased groceries.

Once back at their home, he realized the situation was worse than he expected. It was clear that the boy’s mother was suffering from some health conditions, and the place they lived in was missing furniture.

The two unpacked the groceries together and Matt decided that he needed to make a difference. So what did he do? He set up a GoFundMe page where he could raise money for Chauncy and his mother. What ended up happening would change their lives forever. The page ended up raising $341,000 for the family!

This means that Chauncy would be able to buy new clothes, food, and furniture for their home while also pursuing his own dreams of having a career that would allow his family to flourish. This story just proves that a small act of kindness can truly change someone’s life for the better.
