It’s astounding to think of all the kids who go hungry every single day in the United States. Too many children are not sure of where their next meal is coming from. Their parents are living in poverty or may have fallen on tough times, which unfortunately trickles down to their children.

In fact, one out of six children in the United States faces hunger on a regular basis. This is a huge problem, especially for children who are growing and need healthy meals to develop properly.

As Feeding America explained, children who do not get enough food to eat, especially in their first three years of life, are at a serious disadvantage to the rest of their peers. They face an increased risk of asthma and anemia, are more likely to end up in the hospital, and face ongoing problems in school and social situations.

There are many organizations that fight against childhood hunger every day, but it is still a battle that isn’t easily solved. Luckily, there are many school officials and teachers who are doing what they can to fight hunger in a place they have control over - the school cafeteria.

Lunchtime is most student´s favorite "subject" of their school day. They love hanging out in the cafeteria and talking to friends while enjoying lunch. However, not every child is as happy as their peers, and they are the ones who are not getting enough to eat.

While some loving parents create incredible homemade meals, not all kids are fortunate enough to get what they need. Many kids end up with unappetizing or unhealthy lunches that aren’t enough for their growing needs.

In order to fix this problem, many schools are now creating a “share table.” A share table is really just what it sounds like. If a child has an unopened item that they haven’t finished from their lunch, instead of throwing it out, they can drop that item onto the table. Other kids who are still hungry can come and take what they want from it.

This not only encourages hungry kids to eat more without having to pay a dime, it also reduces the waste that kids tend to make.Teachers and school officials have been regularly posting pictures of their own share tables on social media. People all over the country are getting on board with the idea.

They are a great idea for kids who do not have enough to eat and also super easy to set up. The share tables make their rounds around Facebook and Instagram and the amount of praising comments from all around the world really show, how popular the project is becoming.

Often parents notice that their kids throw away so much food in the cafeteria every day because it is simply too much. A "Sharing Table" keeps perfectly good food from going in the garbage.

Would your school district start something like this? Do you know someone who would support a project like that in your area? Pass the article on to your friends and loved ones to spread the wonderful message.
