Teacher Whose Child Is Battling Cancer Has 110 Sick Days Donated To Him By His Colleagues

A cancer diagnosis is heartbreaking regardless of the patient’s age, but it can seem even more tragic when the patient is a baby. Battling cancer can destroy a young child’s otherwise wonderful childhood memories while also potentially cutting a life severely short.

Parents often struggle to find a balance between supporting their child through cancer treatment and ensuring that they have enough money to pay their regular bills and medical expenses. This was the case for David and Megan Green.

The Green’s daughter was only 11 months old when they began to notice something concerning about her behavior. She had previously been a happy baby who was always quick to laugh and smile. However, her demeanor changed entirely and very rapidly, which spurred her parents to seek medical treatment.

When this Alabama couple visited the pediatrician, she was immediately sent to a local hospital because of a suspected blood infection. It did not take long for hospital medical staff to uncover the actual reason for Kinsley’s behavioral changes. She had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is a form of cancer.

Treatment is available for Kinsley at a reputable Birmingham hospital, which requires a 3-hour drive from the family’s home round-trip WHNT News reported. While Megan was able to take time off of her job to ensure that her child has the medical attention that she needs, the same was not true for David. David had to remain at work during the days because of a lack of vacation time. He works as a football coach at the local high school.

Many days and nights, David was forced to spend away from his family during this very rough period because of his need to work. However, Megan had a wonderful idea. She decided to post an urgent request on social media asking for help. Specifically, she asked some of the other teachers at David’s high school to donate a few of their sick days to him.

The family only needed 40 additional days to get through Kinsley’s current round of treatment. They were overwhelmed and blessed by the tremendous outpouring of support. Altogether, teachers at his high school provided David with 110 sick days according to ABC 15.
