Kinsie Johns is a third-grade teacher at Anette Win Elementary School. The Georgia teacher adores her students very much.

She teaches her students that the classroom should always be a safe space and that her students should always be respectful toward each other. Mrs. Johns feels that her students should be as unique as they desire.

One day, Mrs. Johns walked into her classroom and saw that one of her students is being bullied by the other students in the class. She was very upset that her students had violated the safe space rule that she created. According to Kinsie, one of her students had her hair in a style called the space bun.

When Kinsie saw her student come to school with her hair like that, she thought it was adorable. The students in the class were teasing her and calling her Space Girl. To most people, this type of teasing wouldn’t hurt much. But if you’re in third grade, this type of teasing can be very hurtful.

At first, Mrs. Johns was very irritated and wanted to follow the frequent protocols for bullying. After thinking it thoroughly, she realized that would not be the best solution for this problem. The next day in class, Kinsie surprised everybody by wearing her own hair in a space bun.

Students couldn’t believe that their teacher was wearing her hair in this style! The next day, all the girls in their class had their hair in space buns, even some of the boys with longer hair even wore their hair that way.

Kinsie was thrilled that by doing one simple thing for her student, the perception for all her students changed. She taught her students that it’s their uniqueness that makes the world a fun place. We need more teachers like Kinsie in our schools today!
