Teacher Gives Unexpected Performance On ‘AGT: All-Stars’ And Receives Golden Buzzer

Each season of the hit competition series “America’s Got Talent” brings a fresh batch of new talent and surprising acts. Whether it’s singing, dancing, performing stand-up comedy or putting on a magic show, acts are encouraged to come and showcase their talents in front of the judges and a live audience, whatever that talent may be. Over the years, many stars have been discovered on the competition series, and each new season of the show has proved to be better than the last.

In 2023, the “Got Talent” franchise launched a new rendition of the competition show called “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars.” The contestants all came from previous versions of shows in the franchise, whether it be the American version or an international version. Terry Crews hosts the show with Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel serving as judges.

Similar to the regular “Got Talent” series, “AGT: All-Stars” has a golden buzzer feature, meaning that if a judge presses the golden buzzer, they will send the act to the finale.

Tom Ball knows all too well what a finale feels like – but he also knows what it feels like to come up short. Ball is a singer, actor and teacher. According to his website, he was featured on “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2022 and was the runner-up. His talent was unwavering, though, as judge Amanda Holden said Ball was “one of the best singers the show had seen in 16 years.”

So when Ball auditioned for “AGT: All-Stars,” he was ready to impress. He did exactly that when he performed “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel.

As runner-up during his previous season, Ball came to “AGT: All-Stars” with the dream of taking home the victory. He auditioned with Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.”

The judges were blown away. Cowell, who was there for Ball’s “BGT” audition, said he wished this was the first time he’d ever heard him sing. The music mogul couldn’t believe the power behind Ball’s voice and even compared him to fellow “BGT” winner Susan Boyle. “You’re like Susan Boyle’s grandson because what you do is not what we expect,” Cowell said. “For me, this is the best performance I’ve seen all series.”

The audience chanted that Ball deserved the golden buzzer, and it was clear that Crews and the judges agreed. All five joined forces at the judging table and pressed the golden buzzer together, instantly sending Ball to the final round of the competition show.

Blown away by Ball’s performance, people left supportive comments under the audition video. One person said, “This wasn’t an audition. This was a concert. Absolutely stunning.” Another commented, “What an astonishing performance! Beyond his technical mastery, you can tell he felt the depth of the song’s meaning, and wanted the audience to feel it with him. I’ll remember this one forever. Can’t stop rewinding and re-listening to it.”

Ball was overjoyed and took to Instagram to share how moved he was by everyone’s belief in him. He wrote:

“Absolutely overwhelmed with all the love & support I’ve received since the group Golden buzzer was aired last night! Can’t believe it was the 1st one in History, I’m so proud, I’m in the GRAND FINAL!”

Hoping to clinch the win, Ball performed “Creep” by Radiohead in the finals and once again wowed the judges and fans in the audience and at home.
